Summer Reading

It’s the end of the year and time to get ready for summer reading.

Did you know that studies have shown that children who read 4 or more books over the course of the summer do better on reading tests in the fall as compared to those kids who read only one or no books? Help your child succeed in school and stop that "summer slide."

Below you will find various resources to help keep your child reading this summer.  There are different reading programs available at your local library for children of all ages. Other reading incentive programs are sponsored through book stores, Scholastic and Footprints Academy.  I created a BINGO card for students to use to track their reading to earn a prize from me at the end of the summer.  If your child is having trouble picking a book to read, there are a few websites and booklists listed below to use as a resource.  Please contact me at lsloot@footprintsacademy.com if you have any questions.

Note to parents of incoming 4th - 6th Graders: Students will be required to read a minimum of 3 books from the Maud Hart Lovelace Nominees during the course of the school year. They can read a combination of books from either list.  Have them get a head start and read some over the summer!
